Times Tables 'Rock Wrangle' 2018

We hosted our 2018 Times Tables Rock Stars Final in July 2018. Following the final class assessments for the year, the children with the highest results in terms of accuracy and speed in each class went through to our final 'Rock Wrangle' event. This saw five children in each year group take part in a year group times tables competition against the clock, supported by rock music backing tracks and our rock star audience of pupils, all dressed as rock stars for the day. Our 2018 Times Table champion received a trophy, all the year group finalists received a certificate to mark their achievement and the winner of each year group was presented with an engraved gold medal.

Copley Junior Spelling Bee 2018

Copley Junior’s second annual Spelling Bee was a great success – and a lot of fun too! A huge well done to our Spelling Bee competitors from every year group and also to our enthusiastic pupil audience. We saw a very tightly contested competition with six rounds before a single mistake was made.

Harvest Festival 2018

It was lovely to see so many parents and relatives at our Harvest Festival. Our theme for our Harvest Festival 2018 was 'My pizza as big as the sun.' During the service children from each class shared fascinating facts about the different foods that are added to make a pizza and the food miles involved, which was quite remarkable. Once again, we were very impressed with the children's wonderful singing.

We are very grateful for the huge number of donations given on both days, which were displayed on every table and ledge all around St Mary’s. All our donations were taken to Doncaster Foodbank, where they will make a big difference to many local families. I know helpers at the Foodbank are very grateful for our support.

Children in Need Day 2018

In November 2018 our School Council organised a fun day to help raise funds for Children in Need. We enjoyed coming to school in our colourful/spotty themed clothes and the opportunity to watch Disney animation movies at break times, with a small admission fee to raise funds for this worthwhile charity.

Thank you to all the children who brought donations on the day, raising £226 for Children in Need. Well done to all the children in the School Council for organising such a successful day.

Christmas Concerts 2018

Our Year 5 pupils impressed everyone with their wonderful singing as they presented a lively nativity themed performance, ‘The Inn Crowd’. The nativity story was brought to life as seen through the eyes of the animals, who discovered that there was no better place to be than in the stable on the wondrous evening that Jesus was born.

The Year 6 performance of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ had something for everyone – fantastic acting, super singing, energetic dance, humour, slapstick comedy, high tension, true love, the triumph of good over evil and, of course, a happy ending!
