Please click on the links below to find information and photos about different school events. Some of our annual events, e.g. Spelling Bee, Times Tables Rock Wrangle Final, Talent Show etc. could not take place in the summer term 2020 owing to the restrictions placed upon us because of the COVID-19 pandemic so we look forward to planning these events again when we are able to do so.
Visit by Mr Ed Miliband, MP
We were delighted to welcome Mr Ed Miliband, our local MP, as he visited school on Friday 13th March. He was very interested to find out about all the fantastic work we do at Copley and he was very impressed by the lovely displays of children’s work across school. Following his tour, led by the School Council, Mr Miliband spent time with the School Council, who took the opportunity to ask questions about his work as an MP. The children in the School Council led a high quality question and answer session! Mr Miliband was very kind in the time he gave to answering their questions and he was most impressed with our wonderful children in the School Council.

TRAX FM 'School of the Week'
We were delighted to be chosen to be TRAX FM's 'School of the Week'. As all the children in school wanted to take part, we drew names out of the hat to choose ten children. Lee came to interview the children and snippets were broadcast on TRAX FM for a week on their afternoon show at 3.30pm.

Year Group Workshops at the CAST Theatre 2020
Thanks to everyone's generosity at the Christmas Fair, our CSA members used our fundraising to organise and fully cover the cost of workshops at the CAST Theatre for every year group in school. Each year group participated in:
- a backstage tour, exploring front of house and back stage; learning about all the different career opportunities in the life of a working theatre
- 'Act it Out': a drama workshop, to develop children's skills of improvisation
- 'Bring it Alive': a music and costume workshop, where children improvised through music and drama in response to different costumes
Workshop leaders at the CAST Theatre were most impressed by the enthusiasm and engagement of our children, so well done to everyone! Thank you to CSA members for organising such a fantastic experience for every child in school.

Times Tables 'Rock Wrangle' 2019
We hosted our 2019 Times Tables Rock Stars Final in July 2019. Following the final class assessments for the year, the children with the highest results in terms of accuracy and speed in each class went through to our final 'Rock Wrangle' event. This saw five children in each year group take part in a year group times tables competition against the clock, supported by rock music backing tracks and our rock star audience of pupils, all dressed as rock stars for the day. Our 2019 Times Table champion received a trophy, all the year group finalists received a certificate to mark their achievement and the winner of each year group was presented with an engraved gold medal.

Copley Junior Spelling Bee 2019
Copley Junior’s third annual Spelling Bee was a great success – and a lot of fun too! A huge well done to our Spelling Bee competitors from every year group and also to our enthusiastic pupil audience. We saw a very tightly contested competition with six rounds before a single mistake was made and a record-breaking eleven rounds in all.

Harvest Festival 2019
Our Harvest theme for 2019 was 'Harvest around the World'. Each class researched the harvest traditions of their chosen country and then presented their information, poems and songs (including using sign language) to over 300 children, parents, carers and relatives at our two Harvest Services at St Mary's Church. In our tour of harvest traditions around the World we learned about: Thanksgiving in America; Lammas in Scotland; the Holi Festival in India; Trung Thu in Vietnam; Harvest Moon in China; Oktoberfest in Germany; Chuseok in Korea and the Homowo Festival in Ghana.
We are so grateful for the amazing abundance of harvest gifts donated by families. We displayed the fresh fruit and vegetables, tinned and packaged goods as well as toiletries on every surface at St Mary's Church. After our services, all the items were taken to the Doncaster Foodbank. Our donations will help many local families in need so thank you very much for your generosity.
Children in Need Day 2020
In November 2020 our School Council decided they would like to have a rainbow theme for our Children in Need day. Children looked so bright and colourful in their home clothes.
Please see below a full gallery of all the children in school. We will let you know how much we have raised in the next school newsletter.
Thank you to all the children who brought donations on the day, raising funds for Children in Need. Well done to all the children in the School Council for organising such a successful day.

Non Uniform Day 2019
In November 2019, Children in Need coincided with heavy flooding in our local area, which affected the homes of some of our families. We planned activities to have fun and raise money for the local flood relief fund, including a non-uniform day with a pyjama theme and the opportunity to enter a competition to guess the number of sweets in the jar.
Thank you so much for your fantastic support of our fundraising day. Children and staff looked fabulous in their pyjamas and Pudsey themed clothes. We sent out a ParentPay message to share that, in the light of the local floods, on this occasion we would send the total raised to the local flood relief fund to help our community. In our assembly we celebrated the fantastic work of Children in Need and how many people in our local community are helping people affected by the floods. As well as a pyjama day, children in the School Council organised a competition to guess the number of sweets in the jar. We raised an amazing £420!

Christmas Concerts 2019
Our Year 5 pupils impressed everyone with their wonderful singing as they presented a lively nativity themed performance, ‘C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S spells Christmas.’

The Year 6 performance of ‘The Wizard of Copley’ had something for everyone – fantastic acting, super singing, creative dance, humour, slapstick comedy, high tension, the triumph of good over evil and, of course, a happy ending. There were so many fantastic parts and so much for the children to learn – each and every child should be very proud of themselves. We have such talented children and teachers at Copley; thank you to parents, relatives and governors for your fantastic support at the performances.

Talent Show 2019
Our annual Talent Show is organised by the School Council. The School Council designed letters and posters to publicise the Talent Show. We saw an eclectic range of talents from children in each year group, including dance, cheer leading, magic, gymnastics, drama, poetry performances, piano solo and vocalists. Following the year group talent shows, the whole school enjoyed the Talent Show Finals before voting with a counter for their favourite act. Trophies were presented to the children in 3rd, 2nd and 1st place. We can certainly say that Copley Has Talent!

Copley's 40th Birthday Picnic: celebrating 1979-2019 at our wonderful school
We celebrated Copley's 40th birthday with a whole school picnic. Many thanks to our lovely school cook and kitchen team for providing so many tasty treats in our 'lunch in a bag'. It was great to see the children relaxing, enjoying their lunch and chatting to each other in our beautiful school grounds. As an Eco Green Flag school, it was also most pleasing to note a litter-free field afterwards too! Thank you so much to CSA members for their kind gift to Mrs Taylor, to mark her long and dedicated service to the school. She is pictured below, with our youngest and oldest pupil in school. Thank you also to CSA members for the lovely birthday cake, expertly decorated by our talented governor, Mrs Williamson.
To mark the occasion of our 40th birthday, the CSA designed, organised and funded a commemorative gift for each child - a keyring with torch function, with our Copley logo and personalised birthday design. The children were delighted with their gift - so many thanks once again to our dedicated CSA team.
